Joining the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact

Joining the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact means your organization will become part of a growing global movement to meet all global electricity demand with Carbon-Free Energy sources. The Compact’s members are actively collaborating to accelerate technologies, policies, tools, ideas and advocacy approaches aimed at unlocking 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy for all.

Getting started

1/ Sign up

Join the movement by signing up today and you’ll receive an action list via email to get started.

2/ Attend workshops

Our community meets regularly to discuss specific issues and support each other on the mission to achieve 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy. Recordings of webinars for potential signatories can be found here.

3/ Take action

Take advantage of our tools, community knowledge and best-practice guides to implement change in your organization that advance one or more of the pillars of the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact.

4/ Spread the word

Help build the community needed to realize a 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy future by using our toolkit to invite others to join the movement.

Who is this right for?

The 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact is open to organizations interested in advancing around-the-clock Carbon-Free Energy, including:

  • Energy buyers
  • Energy suppliers
  • Local, regional and national governments
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and charities
  • Energy Advisors
  • Trade associations
  • System operators
  • Technology solutions providers
  • Investors and financial organizations
  • Academic institutions and scientific community

Are there any requirements for signatories?

Our main request is that you dedicate time and attend meetings organized to shape the conversation on 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy.

We also ask all signatories to submit individual Energy Compacts that outline your specific voluntary commitments to advance 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy and optionally other voluntary commitments on broader SDG7. Our team is available to help you identify the right  commitments for your organization, develop your Energy Compact, and provide annual updates.

Advancing 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy

There are many ways that stakeholders across the energy ecosystem can contribute to advancing 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy. Some potential commitments mentioned in the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact include:

Everyone can publicly advocate and support energy policies that accelerate the decarbonization of electricity grids worldwide. This can include policies that help develop, commercialize, and deploy Carbon-Free Energy generation and demand optimization technologies, expand and interconnect electricity grids to integrate Carbon-Free Energy, expand and enhance electricity markets, and provide direct access to purchases of Carbon-Free Energy, among others.

Clean energy buyers can move beyond a 100% renewable energy annual matching goal and adopt a 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy procurement approach that leads to additional clean electricity generation that increasingly matches their hourly electricity demand on local/regional electricity grids where their consumption occurs, in line with the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy principles.

Governments, companies, and solutions providers can commit to supporting the advancement of Carbon-Free Energy technology to decarbonize electricity grids, including by supporting demand optimization technologies, next-generation Carbon-Free Energy, grid infrastructure, and software solutions.

Energy suppliers and solutions providers can commit to provide offerings that enable increasing access to 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy, including developing contractual arrangements, market products, and other innovations that enable the delivery of 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy.

All stakeholders can support widespread access to the energy data required to enable consumers to set and measure 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy goals, support the optimization of Carbon-Free Energy technologies to demand, and maximize the decarbonization impact of consumer actions.
