24/7 Carbon-Free Energy at COP28

Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), with the support of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and other sponsors, will host a pavilion at COP28, taking place in Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 30th November - 12th December. The SDG7 Global South Pavilion will be the main hub at COP28 for discussing and showcasing how to unite global efforts on energy, climate and development.

As our cities and towns evolve, populations grow and energy demands rise, there's never been a more important time to focus on decarbonization. The use of fossil fuels is having drastic impacts on human health, natural environments and the acceleration of climate change and, when leaders meet at events such as COP28, there's an opportunity to demonstrate positive impact and help direct them to make the right decisions for power, people and place.

At COP28, the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact will be hosting:

Advancing the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Movement

  • 5 December 2023, from 10.15AM- 11.15AM at the SDG7 Global South Pavilion

This session will feature high-level discussions on challenges and opportunities of adopting and implementing 24/7 CFE solutions in the Global South. It will explore case studies from regions that have successfully integrated carbon-free energy solutions and explore ways to make the 24/7 CFE movement inclusive, ensuring its benefits extend to diverse communities and nations.

Green Hydrogen and 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy

  • 6 December 2023 from 10.30 am-11.15 am at the SDG7 Global South Pavilion

This session will showcase the integration of the Green Hydrogen Catalogue into the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact and discuss the key role of policies and regulatory frameworks that enable the adoption and integration of green hydrogen into the energy system.

The importance of the Global South in the energy transition

We need rapid decarbonization of electricity across the entire world, across all sectors and across all use points, but the fossil fuel industry is continuing to grow, particularly in the Global South. Fossil fuels are often the affordable solution for developing nations, and the benefits of 24/7 carbon-free energy do not outweigh their speed and low cost. However, investment into carbon-free energy is on the rise and the pace of development in renewable energy in Global South regions is starting to outstrip other parts of the world.

It's time to shine a light on the economic, human and societal benefits that a move from fossil fuels can provide. It’s time to go-carbon free.

Make the switch from fossil fuels

By reversing our dependency on fossil fuels and re-imagining finance, innovation and development through the lens of carbon-free energy, we can deliver positive change for the environment, the economy, and society as a whole.

Find out how you can get involved
